At Intellectual Ventures, we take pride in encouraging the next generation of inventors through mentorship and STEM education. That’s why we’re proud to sponsor the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bellevue, a network of local clubs that provides enriching programs for kid’s ages two to 19 years old through 11 Clubhouses throughout the city. In partnership with IV, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue is reaching more kids more often with life-changing STEM programs.

Fostering a Passion for STEM with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue

At the Club’s Teen Center, free STEM programs for Middle School and High School students have expanded with the addition of a new state-of-the-art STEM Lab. At this new lab, professional staff and skilled volunteers from local companies such as Intellectual Ventures, BEST BUY, and Microsoft are giving kids creative opportunities to foster a passion for STEM.  Weekly curriculum for students includes learning how to build their own computers that they can take home, programming Lego robots, designing video games, creating digital artwork and music, 3-D printing, photography, and much more. Students that are attending the Club’s Teen Center from high-need areas have also been sponsored to participate on the Club’s First Lego Robotics team. Every program offered at the Club’s teen center is free of charge ensuring that any student who wants to can participate in these programs.

This October, the Boys and Girls Club of Bellevue broke ground on a new downtown Main Clubhouse, which will serve the fastest area of growth in the entire city and surrounding areas. The new Clubhouse, set to open in September 2016, will allow the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue to reach more kids with these life changing programs. In 2015, the Club has served more than 12,000 members, making it the largest youth service provider in Bellevue and the only organization in the city that provides a designated center exclusively for teens.

This holiday season, we’d like to thank the Boys and Girls Club of Bellevue for providing local students with free STEM education and encouraging a passion for STEM learning among children and teens. IV encourages everyone to support and encourage the young inventors in their lives.
