Roderick Hyde
Senior Scientist and Inventor

Dr. Hyde recently joined Intellectual Ventures as a senior scientist and inventor. Previously he spent 32 years as a senior physicist at University of California’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Dr. Hyde is a scientist-technologist who has participated in a wide range of technology extensions, including leading a program to develop a large aperture, space-based telescope and developing a variety of space-based devices, vehicles, and systems. Dr. Hyde has also designed, analyzed and modeled a number of high-powered optical and electromagnetic devices and systems.

Dr. Hyde has also been responsible for modeling and optimizing a very broad range of complex systems, including things as diverse as environmental control systems, space-directed vehicles, laser systems, large scale optical imaging systems, and self-contained habitats.

Dr. Hyde came to the LLNL after completing his undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees at M.I.T. At LLNL he has written several hundred codes, including among others, finite element analysis, minimization/optimization, ray and wave optics, and structural design of complex systems. Dr. Hyde has published over a dozen papers and received technology related awards, including the R&D Award 100 and a DOE Award of Excellence. Hyde is a named inventor on one patent and several applications.
