Intellectual Ventures CEO Nathan Myhrvold recently appeared on CNN Money, where he discussed the growing importance of patents to the technology industry. Nathan touched on the evolution of Silicon Valley’s perspective on patents over the last decade, and how a strong invention capital market and effective patent reform could help buoy the U.S. economy amid financial turmoil:
“The patent system is the basis on which many industries are built. It’s a bedrock of pharmaceuticals, of biotech and medical devices. Patents are also critical in wireless, in networking and technology. In fact we’ve seen a huge movement where patents are becoming even more critical than they were before. So I think effective patent reform is a terrific way for Washington to support America’s inventors and help us invent our way out of the mess we’re in.”
