As Chief Financial Officer at Intellectual Ventures (IV), Larry Froeber brings a rare blend of operational expertise and venture capital insight to the helm of the company’s financial strategy. With over 17 years at IV, Larry has helped shape the organization’s evolution through its most complex and groundbreaking initiatives—managing all investor capital, overseeing fund lifecycles, and leading transformative transactions.
A Seattle-area native, Larry earned his accounting degree from the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. His early career in public accounting gave him a solid foundation in business fundamentals, but it was his curiosity and appetite for challenge that led him to roles in telecom and satellite ventures, including a formative stint at Teledesic. That experience, and his time with a Seattle-based venture capital firm, gave him a unique perspective on how to operate and scale innovative companies—making him uniquely qualified to lead at Intellectual Ventures.
Larry thrives on complexity and change. “Our work at IV is never boring,” he says. “We’re always doing something different. It’s the only company in the world that does what we do at the scale that we do it.” From managing investor relations to collaborating with legal and finance teams on global transactions, Larry’s work is driven by a passion for solving problems and a deep respect for the people he works with.
His leadership philosophy is rooted in trust and autonomy. “Hire great people and get out of their way,” he says. “At IV, we have amazing people who know how to do their jobs well and trust themselves and their colleagues. This collaboration has resulted in a culture that is incredibly efficient—and inspiring.”
